Surfers Awareness of Lifesaving Techniques

ready to help?

Your out surfing with some friends when suddenly one doesn't come up after a wipe out, or you spot some young surfers stuck in a rip, what do you do next? The lifeguards have gone home and your on your own, can you cope? Do you have the skills to help?

We are proud to be able to offer the Huntington beach Lifeguards SALT course, or Surfers Awareness of Lifesaving Techniques, a short course designed for every surfer in the water, you don't have to be a lifeguard, just an average everyday surfer who wants to learn some skills to be able to help a friend, assist another surfer or effect a lifesaving rescue before the lifeguards arrive to take over.

At Apex Surf we feel every surfer should have some knowledge of basic rescue techniques, first aid and able to effect a self rescue should things go south quickly.

The course covers such topics as recognition of something being wrong, your response and rescue techniques using your surfing equipment, basic first aid techniques, awareness and recognition of rips and currents and how to escape them, CPR & AED use and managing an unconscious surfer in and out of the water.

The course is normally run over one day but we can make it a weekend course by request and cover additional subjects.

This course is ideal for surf clubs, surf teams, groups of friends and individuals.  We can run this course on request or check our course dates
