Lifeguard and Water Safety Training

As approved  RLSS Trainer / Assessors we offer a range of formal qualifications for professional lifeguards and surf coaches as well as some bespoke tailor made courses for recreational surfers and water safety awareness days for school children.

Water safety plays a big part in what we do in the ocean. If your looking to gain employment as either a professional lifeguard or require it as part of your surf coach qualifications then the range of RLSS course we offer will, on successful completion, give you a formal recognised qualification.

APEX Self Rescue for Surfers - Huntington Beach Lifeguards SALT course

(New  Course for all levels of surfer, surf clubs, groups of surfing friends)

We also provide ongoing CPD training for surf coaches, RLSS qualified Lifeguards and provide pre re-assessment courses/days for those needing the 20hrs evidenced CPD hours pre re-assessment or wishing to keep their skills maintained to a high standard. 

​

We can also provided assessors for other providers needing external independent assessors for their own courses.

RLSS NVBLQ

The National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NVBLQ) is the core qualification for anyone seeking employment on UK Beaches.

The NVBLQ ensures that the qualified lifeguard has the knowledge and skills required to operate effectively across a range of beach environments.

​

NVBLQ was developed with support from the National Water Safety Forum Beach Advisory Group and the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) and is recognised by the RNLI as one of the main qualifications for beach lifeguarding.

​

The NVBLQ course is a minimum of 40 hours long followed by a practical assessment on beach theory, life support, first aid, swimming pool practical and open water practical. 

Upon qualifying with the NVBLQ, the certificate is valid for two years from the date of successful completion

RLSS NCSLA

The National Surf Coach Lifesaving Award aims to be instrumental in developing surf coaches in the UK.

​

To become a qualified surf coach in the UK, you must initially undertake a suitable lifesaving award before enrolling on the instructor/ coach course.

The NSCLA was developed with support from Surfing England and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) to ensure surf coaches adopt the highest standards of beach safety.

​

The NSCLA course length is a minimum of 20 hours, followed by a practical assessment on group management/ supervision, First Aid, Life Support, swimming pool and ocean skills.

​

Upon qualifying with the NSCLA, the certificate is valid for two years from the date of successful completion.

RLSS OWL

The Open Water Lifeguard (OWL) Qualification was developed by the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) to address the role of open water lifeguards and the needs of open water operators. As the open water swimming industry continues to grow, the RLSS UK have endeavored to respond to change through the ongoing development of this qualification. The OWL qualification can be used to supervise and provide rescue cover for planned, organised and risk assessed activities in still, non-tidal water such as cold water dips, open swims, triathlon and other swimming events.

Self Rescue For Surfers

We offer courses for recreational surfers to develop their water and ocean knowledge, safety skills, first aid, self rescue skills and CPR / AED useage.

 

The Huntington Beach Lifeguards S.A.L.T. course is ideal for all levels of surfer and teaches basic rescue and first aid techniques to ordinary surfers.

 

This course although being developed in LA and Hawaii is ideal for surf clubs and individuals to learn what do do should an in water emergency arise to you, a friend or fellow surfers. 

​

This 1 day course is a must for all surfers!
